Confirm that every camera is recording

A live image does not prove footage is being stored. Review playback from each camera, check several dates, and verify that motion or continuous-recording schedules match the intended coverage.

Check time, storage, and retention

Incorrect time settings make footage difficult to locate and use. Review free space, drive warnings, overwrite behavior, and the number of days retained. Higher resolution and more cameras require more storage.

Test remote access before you need it

Open the authorized mobile or desktop app away from the property network. Confirm that account access, notifications, and playback still work after router, internet-provider, phone, or application changes.

Inspect power, cabling, and network health

Intermittent cameras may point to damaged connectors, excessive cable length, weak power supplies, overloaded PoE switches, water exposure, or network instability. Record which channel fails and when.

Maintain security as well as availability

Use unique passwords, remove unused accounts, apply appropriate firmware updates, limit unnecessary internet exposure, and protect the recorder and network equipment with suitable backup power and physical security.
