Test the mailbox in a browser first
If webmail works but Outlook does not, the mailbox service is probably available and the focus shifts to the local profile, application, authentication, or data file. If webmail also fails, check account and provider status.
Read the status instead of repeatedly clicking Send
Working Offline, Disconnected, Trying to connect, a full mailbox, a stuck large attachment, or a password prompt each suggest a different correction. Record the exact message before rebuilding anything.
Profiles and local archives require care
A damaged profile can be recreated, but local PST files, signatures, autocomplete data, and unsynchronized items should be identified first. Deleting a profile is not a harmless first troubleshooting step.
Business delivery problems may involve DNS or security
If outside recipients reject mail or messages never arrive, domain records, filtering, licensing, forwarding, and compromised-account restrictions may need review beyond the desktop application.
