Identify what “offline” actually includes

Determine whether the internet, one terminal, every terminal, the receipt printer, the local POS server, or the payment processor is unavailable. This prevents a provider outage from being treated like a workstation repair.

Preserve the working parts of the network

Photograph gateway, router, switch, and terminal indicators before restarting equipment. Avoid factory resets and do not disconnect every cable at once; labels and a simple diagram shorten recovery.

Router changes can alter addresses and firewall rules

A replacement router may change the network range, DHCP assignments, DNS, reserved addresses, VPN settings, or port rules used by POS components. Restoring internet access does not automatically restore the complete system.

Use processor-approved offline procedures

Businesses should know which transactions, if any, their POS provider permits during an outage. Never improvise card-data collection. Technical recovery and payment-card compliance must remain aligned.
